Put Patients First
The public comment period for 1557 has officially opened. The newly proposed regulation focuses on Section 1557 of the Health Care Rights Law, a part of the Affordable Care Act that bans gender discrimination. This proposal would erase all reference to protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, sex stereotyping, and gender identity. Learn more here. |
Healing Pride, a program partnership between TFC & Heartly House, expands
The expanded program now includes support for survivors of intimate partner violence, and is called Healing Pride. It remains free for participants. The Frederick Center and Heartly House partnership offering a free support group for LGBTQ survivors of sexual assault, sexual abuse, and/or intimate partner violence.

The Frederick Center secures Community Partnership Grant for FY19
On May 15th, The Frederick Center was awarded a Community Partnership Grant from Frederick County Division of Citizen Services. The $7,600 grant will help fund Youth Services from July 1, 2018 until June 30th, 2019. Youth Services make up The Frederick Center’s Youth and Young Adult Groups. In keeping with the transparency of The Frederick Center, the project outcomes we outlined were: To achieve these outcomes, the center is dedicated to the following: Youth Group Young Adult Group Since its beginning, The Frederick Center has set out to support, educate, link, organize, and provide outreach to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) community and its allies. 2018 Ally of the Year Award

“Ally of the Year” LGBTQ Awards Presented June 21 The Frederick Center will present the “2018 Ally of the Year Award” at a special event held on Thursday, June 21 from 5-7 at the outdoor labyrinth at Trinity Chapel in downtown Frederick. The Frederick Center, the non-profit LGBTQ resource organization, bestows the award to individuals and entities that support Frederick County’s LGBTQ community. Kris Fair, chair, board of directors, The Frederick Center, said that two recipients will be honored this year. “We are also pleased to recognize the Frederick County Public Schools Board of Education for its national leadership in the adoption of policy 443, which affirms the rights and protections of transgender students in the school system, as well as Di Creedon, whose generous contributions exemplify what it means to be an ally of the LGBTQ community." The event is being held in the newly renovated labyrinth in back of Trinity Chapel, located at 10 West Church St. The presentation of awards will take place at 6pm. Refreshments will be served at the event, which is free and open to the public. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved across the street to the Community Center of the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ (ERUCC) at 15 W. Church St. The awards presentation is made possible through the generosity of PNC Bank with additional support from the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ and Tobacco Free Frederick – Frederick County Health Department. Start off Pride month with our annual Silent Auction Party on Friday 6/1!
Friday, June 1 at 6 PM - 9 PM Delaplaine Arts Center 40 S Carroll St, Frederick, Maryland 21701 Celebrate the start of June Pride festivities, with a fundraiser benefiting The Frederick Center, organizer of Frederick Pride. Enjoy live entertainment, snacks, and a beer & wine cash bar, all while perusing items up for auction. ALL AGES! How the silent auction works: increasing bids are written on a sheet of paper that is placed next to the item. At the end of the auction (8:15pm), the highest listed bidder wins the item. Items start as low as $5. Mingle during the auction, perusing the items and upping your bid on any items you've been outbid on. At the end of the event your won items will be at the cashier. Pay with cash, check or credit card. Simple, fun, no pressure, a large variety of small to large items. |

Welcoming Frederick all-day conference seeks sponsors
Welcoming Frederick is an annaul one-day conference dedicated to providing families and professionals with the tools necessary to build affirming communities for LGBTQ youth and adults. It is presented by The Frederick Center, FreeState Justice, the Hood College Studies on Women and Gender (SWAG) Program, and the Hood College Queer Student Union (QSU). Questions to welcomingfrederick@thefrederickcenter.org Welcoming Frederick 2018 will take place at Hood College in the Whitaker Campus Center on Saturday, May 5, 2018. Hood is located at 401 Rosemont Avenue, Frederick, Maryland, 21701. Last year we brought together approximately 100 youth and professionals; this year we are expecting a similar audience. The event wraps around two LGBTQ youth panels where youth of different age groups relay their real-world experiences with local schools, businesses, and government/non-profit service organizations. Expert-led presentations and breakout sessions address current issues with best-practice actionable plans. Sponsorship form attached, sponsorship levels are $150 and $500. |

Registration for booth and table space for 2018 Frederick Pride, June 23 11am-6pm: 10x10 booth spaces are $150 until 5/1, sheltered table spaces for non-profit organizations that are not selling anything are $50 until 5/1.
