If you are a medical professional in Frederick County, we need your help

posted Jul 27, 2017, 12:26 PM by Brian Walker   [ updated Jul 27, 2017, 12:30 PM ]

Dear Frederick County Medical Professional:

Working in coordination with the Frederick County Health Department, Frederick County Public Schools, and Frederick Memorial Hospital, The Frederick Center, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) providing resources to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) and Ally community of central Maryland, is initiating a brief survey to document the comfort and confidence that medical community in Frederick County has in treating LGBT patients.  Pasted below is a letter from Dr. Barbara Brookmyer of the Frederick County Health Department on the importance of this effort to enhance medical outcomes for the LGBT community in Frederick.

Survey responses are anonymous, with additional details at this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FrederickHealthcareIndex. Understanding schedules are busy and summer is upon us, our goal is to collect as many responses from the Frederick County medical community as possible over the next three months.

Take the survey

In addition to taking the survey, we invite you to share this information and link with other medical professionals in your practice and contact network. On this, we will be using several sources to contact the medical community as well as asking members of The Frederick Center to invite their medical providers to participate. As a result, you may receive more than one request.  We ask that each professional only complete the survey once and apologies in advance for any repeated requests.

Thank you,
Peter Brehm pbrehm@thefrederickcenter.org

Glade United Church of Christ and The Frederick Center, Inc. will sponsor a suicide awareness workshop on September 23, 2017 from 9:00 am-12:30 pm at Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ located at 15 W. Church St., Frederick, MD 21701 in downtown Frederick. Registrants will be advised of the meeting room in the church facility closer to the date. The training will be presented by LivingWorks, a national organization recognized by the Mental Health Association of Frederick County that is a leader in suicide intervention training. The program, safeTALK, focuses on alertness training and is geared toward participants aged 16 and older. Its premise is that most people with thoughts of suicide don’t truly want to die, but are struggling with physical and/or emotional pain in their lives. Through their words and actions, they invite those with whom they interact to provide help to stay alive. safeTALK-trained helpers can recognize these invitations and take action by connecting these individuals with life-saving intervention resources.
Training features:
Presentations and guidance from a LivingWorks registered trainer
