Heartly House, Inc. and The Frederick Center, Inc. partner to offer:
Safe Space Healing
A support group for adult LGBTQ survivors of sexual assault or sexual abuse

To apply for this free group please call Heartly House: 301-662-8800

Safe Space Healing is an open and ongoing free weekly support group specifically for adult (ages 18+) Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Queer (LGBTQ) survivors of sexual assault or sexual abuse. It is facilitated by licensed therapists from Heartly House. Management, marketing, and funding for this group is shared by both organizations.

The support group provides a safe space that promotes healing by addressing issues of safety, the emotional impact of sexual abuse and assault, moving through experiences of loss associated with sexual abuse and assault and supporting resiliency. The CDC’s National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey in 2010 found that Approximately 1 in 8 lesbian women (13%) and nearly half of bisexual women (46%) have been raped in their lifetime, while 4 in 10 gay men (40%) and nearly half of bisexual men (47%) have experienced some type of sexual violence, other than rape, in their lifetime. It is estimated that at least 50% of transgender individuals have experienced sexual violence during their lifetime, but this number is likely under-reported, as are most sexual assaults.

Interested applicants for this free weekly support group should contact Heartly House at 301-662-8800. The time, day, and location of the group will be disclosed to applicants after they complete a successful phone intake process.
